Glasses, la voce rock di Pristina / Kosovo / aree / Home

A very interesting indies group called The Glasses comes from Kosovo. It was created at the end of 2007 by the meeting between the lead singer and guitarist Flamur Mahmutxhiku, the guitarist Asdren Jonuzi, the bassist Zgij Elshani and the drummer Pajazit Dermaku. And for the first time, an independent group is making it much more difficult to consolidate genres such as hip-hop, electronic music and, above all, turbofolk, which has been shaping Kosovo and much of the Balkans for years.

"After all, there is no very important rock scene in Pristina", says the singer and head of the line-up, "so we wanted to suggest something new and fresh". But there is no shortage of happy islands, of corners where more and more people talk about the "new punk scene". The first spectacle performances take place in pubs and clubs in Pristina.

From concert to concert they attract more and more audiences until the band's name comes into circulation with greater perseverance. There are many positive comments such as: "The most exciting group in Kosovo and Albania". "A great satisfaction," says the singer, seraphic. In fact, there are few musical and cultural differences between Kosovo and Albania.

"Everyone knows that 92% of Kosovo is inhabited by Albanians," underlines the F├╝hrer, "I myself have written the Kosovar on my passport, but I am primarily an Albanian. The opening track is "Dirty Glasses", an energetic, distorted song that can be traced back to the Strokes, but also to something by Franz Ferdinand, Vaccines and Libertines. Other interesting tracks are "A Lady Big Dream" with a shamelessly popular chorus, "Silhouette" with a tender and suggestive little gait and "Bob De Rosa" with a decided punk shot.

"We presented it to four hundred people," says the singer, "it was a great pleasure to see so many young fans of our songs and ready to buy our CDs. "One day I could go on the road with Jack White," but that's not all. The glasses hope that she will soon be able to enter a recording studios again.

"We will see," says the singer, "in the meantime we have rented a workshop where we can rehearse comfortably.
