The Oper'azione Nafta is a unique and rare group in the Italian music scene and lies on the ambiguous border of genre pollution. The Nafta Opera was born in the winter of 1997 as a noise/free forming project from the ashes of various music projects (the noise/pop group "nylon ist, 6th", "Karen Eliot" and "operazione nafta"), whose common denominator is the participation of Francesco Calandrino and Piero La Rocca.
In 2004, the musical project Oper'azione Nafta was re-established as a band: a threesome of the two founders Francesco Calandrino und Piero La Rocca, to which Marco Kalandrino was added. They play in Palermo at experimental music festivals such as Curva Minore's 2004 "NEW YORK, NEW YORK. SICILIA MEETS DOWN TOWN", where they open the evening, followed by Jim Pugliese's Phase III project.
In 2006, the three defined the CD Rolf and the magazine Blow Up as "the best Italian free radical-jazz noise band" and said that "Oper'azione Nafta is for Italian music, like Petrolio for literature and Ciprì and Maresco for film. To all these badly tuned radios and Sicilian voices that break into their intimacy, you will have all the "pieces" of this sound mystery at your disposal that is Opera'azione Nafta, Scene @ Candelai of Palermo last November 10th, to precede the attraction of the evening that is the liars.
In recent years, Oper'azione Nafta has moved more and more towards radical improvisation and its performances usually turn out to be a single musical flow. Francesco Calandrino records some of these recordings, often without the presence of an audience, in low fidelity, i.e. with a walk man, and sends them to the label Silbreeze Records in Pensylvania.
Fascinated by their music, siltbreeze decided to release the limited edition of Cavuru, a 500 copies LP released on the music market in March 2008.
