English Punk Rock BandPunk Rock Band
The musical origin of the British punk movement goes back to 1975, when music director Malcolm McLaren, after a brief stay in the United States to promote the band New York Dolls, returned to London in May of this year and, inspired by the new American music scene of the bands grouping around the historic New York CBGB, decided to restructure the clothing store, of which he is a co-owner, on Kings Road (renamed Sex) with the sale of "Anti-Fas".
Among those who visited the store were members of a band called The Strand who suggested McLaren become theirs. In August, in search of a new singer, the group contacted another regular in the store, John Lydon, who accepted the order, and with the choice of a new name, the group performed as Sex Pistols in his first concert on November 6, 1975.
Very soon the band began to gain a small fan base and, as critic Jon Savage describes it, "embody an attitude driven by McLaren with entirely new references: radical politics of the late sixties, fetishist sex life and the history of popular music". At the same time as McLaren was working with Sex Pistols, Bernard Rhodes, another Pistols friend and musical director, was interested in the new scene and active in promoting another interesting group, the London SS, which disbanded in early 1976 before their public appearance, but formed two new groundbreaking punk bands: The Damned and The Clash.
So when the Ramones cross the sea in July to perform in two concerts in London, the first with Flamin Groovies and The Stranglers on their shoulders and the second even with Clash and Sex Pistols at the beginning, they help to give the up-and-coming English punk scene the last push and influence their musical style.
Later other branches of UK punk were born, such as: oi! /street punk, a branch of UK punk which presents some variations, such as stadium choirs, and which became the main genre supported by skinheads. Hardcore UK punk (also called UK 82), which found a rhythm that was often faster, more aggressive, more chaotic, with a screaming voice, and dealt with issues inspired by the UK punk movement, whose political nature was inspired by the Sex Pistols but more extreme, and dealt with issues such as social hardship, disorder, anarchy, against institutions and governments.
The punk anarchist, a movement initiated by the band Crass, which differed from the attitude inherited from the Sex Pistols, which prevailed against many British punk 77 and punk bands, but was politically strongly engaged and supported the anarchist ideology, pacifist, animalist, vegetarian, against drugs and the power of institutions. Punk is the genus that has most detached itself from the original movement.
Sounds became more experimental and were the origin of the Gothic Rock movement. It was often played by members of former punk groups. <font color="#ffff00">-=?=- proudly presents Followed on 5 June 2009. ? (INGLESE) A short story of punk.
