Trumpet with the subtle phrasing of Buddy Morrow
On February 8, 1919, in New Haven, Connecticut, the trombonist Buddy Morrow was born, one of the characters of orchestral Jazz, known for his mastery of the upper class. He began playing the trumpet at the age of twelve and performed with various formations in his area at a very young age. After graduating from Juilliard University in New York in 1936, he received his first major engagement in the trumpet player Sharkey Bonano's Jazzband.
In the following years he played with Artie Shaw, Vincent Lopez, Bunny Berigan, Tommy Dorsey and Paul Whiteman and turned out to be a trombonist with a refined phrasing and a soft and velvety sound. In 2009, the International Trombone Association awarded him a career prize on the occasion of his 90th birthday.
One year later, on September 27, 2010, he died in New Haven, his hometown.
